DEI means accepting that people are different.  Acknowledging that all of us have unique perspectives and skills that are valuable, and that we must fight the bias in thinking that only people like us have value!

Being Woke implies that you recognize that there are laws, policies, regulations, and systems that make if more difficult for women and people of color to achieve the same as white men when both groups are equally qualified.

These are not foreign concepts to any Americans that has spent any time in a diverse space.  Indeed, children naturally question injustice and must be taught to accept it.  Sometimes this teaching is overt and sometimes subtle through actions and words by others.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion… how are those bad words?

They are bad words to the weak, afraid, and lazy who want a head start in life because they are afraid that without a head start, they would fail.

This does not foolishly imply that we all start at the same place in life, parents have different socioeconomical status, so some are born into privilege.  That is not what these concepts are about, DEI is the deliberate effort undo these systems that make an easier path for white men and level the playing field, that is all.

Most people have absolutely no power in creating these systems, even though they may benefit from them.  However, we all have the power to acknowledge them, reject them, and work to dismantle them.

If someone is telling you that DEI and Woke are bad, what they are saying is everyone that doesn’t look like me, is not my same gender, or sexual orientation is bad, and you should hate them or you should help me oppress their ability to succeed.

That is not America!  Those people are not America they are anti everything American stands for!

I invite you to join me in a discussion and exploration of Social Justices issues like this.  Join the movement to make change for the better.  My goal is small, to start a dialogue that may results in action.  Change starts with realizing and accepting that there is a problem.  Join me at www.jpatrickhare.com where you can see the rest of this piece, share in my other works and start to make a change first in yourself and maybe in your community.
