ABOUT THE AUTHOR

J. Patrick Hare began writing as a teen exploring the challenges facing a young black man growing up in the Southern United States. A dedication to social justice writing was born after a writing course at Virginia Tech taught by distinguished Professor Nikki Giovanni challenged him to go deeper in his writing. Themes ranging from America’s defense spending, an analysis of American politics, greed, and the reality of being an uninsured college student began to inspire his work.

After moving to Los Angeles, his writing took a back seat to staring a career in business. That all changed after reading and seeing story after story on the news about people of color suffering at the hands of police officers around the country. Once again putting pen to paper, an exploration of how those events were affecting him led to his first book Badge of Dishonor.
